Sharks Should Contact Maple Leafs About Nick Robertson

San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier should consider acquiring Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Nick Robertson.

With the San Jose Sharks at the start of a rebuild, acquiring draft capital and prospects is key.

Much like Filip Zadina, Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Nick Robertson could need a change of scenery. Although the Leafs are high on him, he hasn't been able to crack a full-time NHL roster spot.

Robertson did not make the Maple Leafs NHL roster this season out of training camp. Toronto kept former Sharks forward Noah Gregor, brought in on a PTO, and surprise centerman Fraser Minten.

Robertson would head back to the AHL, where he has started the season on fire. He has six points in four games this season (3 goals, 3 assists).

The Sharks need a scoring punch, and Robertson's game is centered around his shooting ability. Zadina is in the process of re-finding the form that got him drafted No. 6 overall. Anthony Duclair only has one goal, and it wasn't the cleanest.

Robertson is also a California native. He and his brother Jason Robertson of the Dallas Stars were born in Pasadena, Calif. Although he is from SoCal, Nick would be moving closer to his family on the west coast.

San Jose has added players who will be UFAs after this season or next, which is enticing to a cup-contending team like the Maple Leafs.

Players like Mikael Granlund, Mike Hoffman, and Alexander Barabanov could all be intriguing pieces for the Leafs to acquire in a deal that includes Robertson.

Scoring isn't needed for the Leafs, and Roberston's development needs him to play a higher role in the NHL. In 37 career NHL games, he has three goals and four assists, where he continually plays a bottom-six role.

Robertson is 22 and will be an RFA at year's end. If the San Jose Sharks want to continue building their prospect pool away from the NHL Draft, Nick Robertson is a name GM Mike Grier should inquire about.
