Head Coach David Quinn has been excited for the Russian's upcoming season. He has said on multiple occasions that he thinks Barabanov can take his game to another level.
"I liked his season last year. He and I talked about that there's another level for him to get to. I think this guy is just scratching the surface," Quinn said on 9/22. "He's a really smart player. He's competitive. I think he spent a lot of time improving his shot. He looks a little bit quicker right now."
Barabanov has shown great chemistry with Tomas Hertl since he arrived in 2021. In the Sharks' last preseason game, he skated with Hertl and Anthony Duclair.
"I want to be a team player," Barabanov said. "[I want to] work hard and score goals here. I want to play better in the defensive zone, 100%. Just helped the win. We want to be in the playoffs."
43-51 points is right around what he did last season. In 68 games, Barabanov had 47 points (15 goals, 32 assists).
If Barabanov plays a full season and gets to the next level he and coach Quinn feel he can get to, the San Jose Sharks would reap the benefits.
