San Jose Sharks head coach David Quinn expects his team to compete and surprise the NHL.

Most predictions throughout the NHL have the San Jose Sharks finishing at the bottom of the league.

Head Coach David Quinn expects his team to catch the hockey world by surprise and win games.

"If you're a fan of the Sharks, you're going to feel really good about our effort," Quinn said. "If I'm paying money to come watch any professional sports team, you want to make sure that they're giving an honest effort."

GM Mike Grier used the 2023 offseason to bring in pieces that provide internal competition throughout training camp.

"You could just feel it from the get-go," Quinn said about the intensity of training camp. "I give our returning players a lot of credit. They really set the standard. You can draw up all the drills you want and assume that there's going to be a lot of pace and skating, but how they do it and how hard they do it really dictates the pace, and that's what they've done throughout training camp and today."

Quinn believes that the depth of the forward core, the work ethic of the roster, and the attention to detail in the defensive zone will lead the San Jose Sharks to more wins.

"You're going to get an effort physically, you're gonna get honest effort mentally, and you're going to get a team that wants to play together and for each other," Quinn explained. "With that comes probably a lot more winning than people may be predicting for us, and that's how we're looking at it."

The San Jose Sharks open the season on Thursday against the Vegas Golden Knights.
