Neville E. Guard-USA TODAY Sports - Pregame Preview #4: Labanc Makes Season Debut; Sharks Host Bruins

The San Jose Sharks (0-2-1) host the Boston Bruins (2-0-0) at 7:30 p.m.

Kevin Labanc will make his season debut for Team Teal this evening, but not after some controversy.

Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli reported that he was headed for waivers today. Per Sharks PR and Labanc himself, that report was denied.

Head Coach David Quinn was surprised to hear about the possibility of Labanc going on waivers.

"Honestly, and I'm not just saying this, I was absolutely stunned by what was circulated. I don't know what happened, but [it was] never discussed, ever," Quinn said.

The Sharks did end up placing defenseman Radim Simek on waivers this morning. Nikita Okhotiuk was also sent to the AHL on a conditioning assignment.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic is returning to the lineup tonight. Henry Thrun was sent down earlier this week in preparation for Vlasic's return.

    Projected Sharks lineup:

    Barabanov-Hertl-Duclair
    Labanc-Bordeleau-Zadina
    Eklund-Kunin-Hoffman
    Zetterlund-Sturm-Smith

    Ferraro-Burroughs
    Knyzhov-Rutta
    Vlasic-Benning

    Kahkonen
    Blackwood

"Obviously, being around the [Boston] area this summer and hearing everything. A lot of people talk about the guys they lost. I'm focusing on the guys that have, and they still have a lot of good players," Quinn said about the Bruins. "I think sometimes that gets lost when you lose the quality of players that they've been losing."

Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. and can be seen on NBC Sports California or The Sharks Audio Network.
