Seth Jones scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the San Jose Sharks blew a 4-0 lead to the Chicago Blackhawks in overtime 5-4 on Saturday night.
"You can never take your foot off the pedal. I didn't think we did it too much, but enough to get them back in the game. Give them credit. They were opportunistic, for sure," Sharks head coach David Quinn said.
Thomas Bordeleau and Fabian Zetterlund scored twice, and Devin Cooley, a San Jose area native, started his second career game tonight and made 26 saves. Zetterlund, who added an assist, upped his team-leading goal total to 20.
"It started off really great. Then you know now it's a little bit embarrassing. Maybe [wish this] one wasn't at home. Obviously, it was super special, going through the Shark head and seeing the crowd and everything. It's something I've dreamt of my whole life, and I wish it was a better result, but you know, it's still really cool. It'll be cool to look back on," Cooley said postgame.
The Blackhawks got goals from Ryan Donato, Tyler Johnson, Seth Jones, and Philipp Kurashev. Petr Mrazek made 26 saves.
San Jose dominated the first 20 minutes of the game by swarming the Hawks on the forecheck. They created turnovers that led to high-danger shots. The Sharks also scored two powerplay goals.
Coming into tonight's game, the Sharks were four points behind the Blackhawks in the standings. Both teams earned a point due to the game heading into OT, which helped the Sharks cause in the long run.
Thomas Bordeleau deflected home his fifth goal of the season on the powerplay. Fabian Zetterlund did a great job finding his stick on the shot pass.
Bordeleau picks up the loose puck in the slot and snipes his 6th goal of the season. The Sharks have been all over the Blackhawks to start the game, creating chances off the forecheck.
Luke Kunin and Andreas Athanasiou dropped the gloves toward the end of the first period.
Fabian Zetterlund shoots around the defender for a third Sharks goal! It was his team-leading 19th goal of the season.
Zetterlund scores again, his 20th of the season! This goal comes 58 seconds after his first.
Ryan Donato scores his 11th goal of the season to get the Blackhawks on the board.
In the slot, Tyler Johnson scores his 16th goal of the season. Donato found him with a great pass from behind the net.
Seth Jones scored his 5th goal of the season while the Sharks had a delayed penalty.
Philipp Kurashev tied it with 47 seconds left for his 15th goal of the season. That goal erased the Sharks' 4-0 lead.
Seth Jones won the game in overtime.
