The San Jose Sharks have set their initial 23-man roster in preparation for the regular season.

The NHL season is approaching, and the San Jose Sharks have announced the initial 23 roster.

Forwards:

Forwards: Alexander Barabanov, Thomas Bordeleau, Anthony Duclair, William Eklund, Mikael Granlund, Tomas Hertl, Mike Hoffman, Luke Kunin, Kevin Labanc, Givani Smith, Nico Sturm, Filip Zadina, Fabian Zetterlund

Defensemen:

Matt Benning, Kyle Burroughs, Ty Emberson, Mario Ferraro, Nikolai Knyzhov, Jan Rutta, Henry Thrun, Marc-Edouard Vlasic

Goaltenders:

MacKenzie Blackwood, Kaapo Kahkonen

Injured Non-Roster:

Logan Couture, Nikita Okhotiuk, Mitchell Russell

Injured Reserve:

Jacob MacDonald, Radim Simek

Logan Couture won't start the season on IR, which is significant. Although San Jose Sharks head coach David Quinn said it is doubtful Couture will play in Thursday's opener. He will be eligible to play once added to the roster.

Nikita Okhotiuk was acquired in the Timo Meier trade and is waiver-eligible. Mike Grier likely wants to get a look at the defenseman, as he was having a good camp before his injury.

The Sharks open the regular season at home on Thursday against the Vegas Golden Knights.
