Former San Jose Sharks forward Kevin Labanc is signing a one-year, one-way contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets, THN has learned.
THN has confirmed that Labanc's deal is a one-way contract worth $775,000, the league minimum.
“Kevin Labanc has been a productive offensive player in this league for several years,” Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell said in a press release. “He has an excellent shot and playmaking ability and given his character we believe he will fit in very well with our group.”
Labanc signed a professional tryout with the New Jersey Devils late this summer and made the most of his opportunity. Labanc led the NHL in goals during the preseason with six, including a hat trick in his last game.
While the Devils aren't signing Labanc to a contract, his play has earned him a spot with Columbus. The Blue Jackets can deploy Labanc on the powerplay and hope to get offense from the winger in a depth role.
