Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports - Sharks Send Top Goalie Prospect To AHL

The San Jose Sharks top goalie prospect, Yaroslav Askarov, has returned from a lower-body injury and was sent down to the AHL.

Askarov had been dealing with a lower-body injury and had not participated in Sharks training camp. After practice yesterday, head coach Ryan Warsofsky said Askarov and defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin were getting close to returning to practice.

San Jose has Vitek Vanecek and Mackenzie Blackwood remaining on its NHL roster, suggesting that the Sharks will use those two as their top goalies.

Askarov signed a two-year extension that kicks in next season. He could see some NHL time this season, but he will start in the AHL.
