This former San Jose Sharks winger scored a hat trick last night for the New Jersey Devils.

Many players around the NHL on PTOs are fighting for a roster spot, and some are making the most of their opportunities.
Last night, former Sharks winger Kevin Labanc scored a hat trick for the Devils against the Philadelphia Flyers. Labanc has six goals in the preseason, with all six coming in the last three games.
Labanc's second goal was a snipe from the top of the slot on a five-on-three powerplay. With elite accuracy, he displayed his ability to fire a puck at a moment's notice.
Labanc is looking to save his career with the Devils, and leading the NHL in goals during the preseason is an excellent way to do it. The next closest player is Columbus Blue Jackets forward Adam Fantilli.
The Devils open the NHL's regular season today against the Buffalo Sabres in Prague, Czechia. Labanc has been playing with primarily AHL-level players against teams that are fielding closer to NHL rosters.
His preseason performance has earned him a contract, but nothing is guaranteed in the NHL.
