BREAKING: Sharks Forced To Play Shorthanded Against Penguins

Due to injuries and illness, the San Jose Sharks can only dress five defensemen against the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight.

Jan Rutta returned to the ice for the first time in a week this morning but will not play as he is recovering from a lower-body injury. 

Kevin Labanc returns to the lineup as the team's 13th forward as Mike Hoffman isn't available due to an upper-body injury.

Some questions remain about why the Sharks didn't prepare for a situation like this. Rutta didn't play the Ottawa Senators last Saturday, and Hoffman was injured in the third period. 

Mario Ferraro and Henry Thrun could be in store for a heavy workload tonight.
