The Pittsburgh Penguins were supposed to give out an iconic Jaromir Jagr bobblehead to every fan in attendance before tonight's game against the San Jose Sharks, but due to the shipment being stolen, it won't happen.
The team also announced that they learned of the theft after the original shipment was made to California.
"We were shocked to be a victim of cargo theft, and we are working closely with local and federal authorities on the investigation," Penguins President of Business Operations Kevin Acklin said. "While this unfortunate incident adds to the legend of Jaromir Jagr, who will be in attendance as our guest at tonight's game, we look forward to resolving this theft and delivering the prized Jagr bobbleheads to their rightful homes with our fans,"
This is quite a predicament for fans, but the team said it would provide vouchers to each fan so that they could pick up their bobblehead later.
Jagr has been around Pittsburgh since his jersey was retired on February 18th. He's been speaking with some of the top NHL players as they visit the Penguins. The Penguins' social team knew that this was a perfect opportunity to utilize Jagr's iconic salute.
Former Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman and fellow countryman to Jagr, Jan Rutta, wondered if the thieves knew what they were stealing and who Jaromir Jagr is.
The Sharks and Rutta are in Pittsburgh once a season, and it just so happens that tonight was Jagr's giveaway night. Unfortunately for Penguins fans, their giveaway is seemingly closer to the Shark Tank in San Jose than PPG Paints Arena.
