San Jose Sharks centerman Logan Couture has missed the first three practices after the All-Star break while dealing with soreness.

San Jose Sharks centerman Logan Couture has missed the first three practices after the All-Star break while dealing with soreness.

Sharks head coach David Quinn said on Saturday that Couture was "a little sore."

This comes on the heels of the major announcement that Tomas Hertl will miss several weeks with a knee injury he has dealt with for most of the season.

"Cooch is a little sore, so we kept them off the ice," Quinn said Saturday. "We kept him off [the ice] because he had a choice."

When asked if he would still play on Wednesday, Quinn said, "That's what the plan is, but he's always day-to-day with this situation."

Osteitis pubis is what Couture has been dealing with. He has played just six games this season and has one assist, which came in his season debut.

With Hertl out long-term and Couture possibly missing Wednesday's game against the Winnipeg Jets, William Eklund could get an extended look at the center position.

Eklund has played center during his last two games and looked comfortable doing it. He centered a line with Alexander Barabanov on his left and Anthony Duclair on his right against the Anaheim Ducks.

He showed poise and confidence with the puck, especially in his first game at center against the Seattle Kraken. He created the game's first goal by dashing through four players and feeding the puck to the point.

After practice today, head coach David Quinn told the media that Couture would be week-to-week after suffering a setback.

Eklund did participate in line rushes as a center today, and it looks like he will get an extended run at that position.

Couture's injury setback is a tough blow to the Sharks, who were starting to get excited about having all four of the team's top centers play in a game. Sheng Peng report
