While the San Jose Sharks have struggled on the ice the last few seasons, the business of the Sharks has grown.

The San Jose Sharks have not made the playoffs in the last four NHL seasons.
Despite a record of 104-145-71 across those seasons, the business of the San Jose Sharks continues to grow.
According to Sportico, the Sharks' net worth is $1.04 billion. While that ranks 22nd in the NHL in 2023, the Sharks moved up the rankings.
Their 2022 net worth was listed at $755 million, ranking them 26th in the NHL. That is a 40% valuation increase over a year despite the team's lackluster play on the ice.
The Sharks have the 7th highest growth over a year compared to the rest of the league.
"Hockey's thriving in America, North America, and worldwide," Sharks head coach David Quinn said. "This is a great hockey area. So, I'm not surprised that the value has increased the way it did."
It has been well-documented that the Sharks are in the midst of a rebuild. They started this season with an NHL record-tying 11-game losing streak.
"I've said many times we are paying the price for a long, long run of success in trying to win a Stanley Cup. If you look at all the teams in our situation, that's usually the price you're going to pay at some point down the line," Quinn said. "Ours may be a little bit harder than others, but we're slowly getting out of it."
The fact that the Sharks are growing on the business side of things will help when it comes to the rebuild. The NHL salary cap is expected to jump after this season. With more financial backing and cap space, GM Mike Grier can weaponize the cap.
"If there's something there that maybe fits what we want to do long-term, age-wise, and player profile-wise, then maybe there's things we will look at," Grier said last Monday. "We're not going to do anything that would jeopardize or get in the way of our young players' development or move important draft capital just to try and salvage the season."
The Sharks will be in the market for a big free agent add or trade piece in the coming years. The growth in the value of the team will help the on-ice product even more.
