Marc-Edouard Vlasic stays red hot as he scored his fourth goal in the last eight games as the San Jose Sharks beat the Seattle Kraken 2-0 on Tuesday night.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic continues his offensive tear with his 4th goal of the season. Jan Rutta scored a full-ice empty net goal. Mackenzie Blackwood had to be alert all night as he made 32 saves. The Sharks struggled to possess the puck but picked it up in the third period.
This was Blackwood's first shutout of the season and as a member of the San Jose Sharks.
"I think he's been great all year. I really do. I think he's one of the top goalies in the league. Just a phenomenal teammate, too," Sharks coach David Quinn said. "We just talked about it in there. I mean, this guy looks like King Kong in the net. He's so athletic. He's poised, and he's a hell of a teammate. I am actually surprised it is his first shutout of the year."
Both teams struggled to score, but the Kraken hit three posts, and Joey Daccord made 19 saves.
William Eklund played center and looked good doing it, too. Tomas Hertl missed the game with a lower-body injury. Eklund centered a line of Anthony Duclair and Alexander Barabanov.
"Felt good. I got a lot of pucks, got a lot of possession that's what I like. I like to play with the puck, and I feel like Duke and Barbie did a hell of a job today," Eklund said.
"He's had experience playing center, just not at this level here. To do it seamlessly certainly talks about the type of player he is," Quinn said about Eklund. "I think what he's done over the first 49 games kind of put him in a good mindset with this challenge of playing center in the National Hockey League. He didn't blink an eye. He was eager to do it. I thought he played really well."
Jacob MacDonald returned from injury.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic finally gets the game's first goal with 12:33 remaining in the third period. It was Vlasic's fourth goal of the season. William Eklund earned an assist on the play as he nicely drove the puck into the zone.
Jan Rutta scored a full-ice empty net goal to make it 2-0. It was his third goal of the season.
