Fueled by Danil Gushchin's five-assist night, the San Jose Sharks had another memorable comeback victory over the Vegas Golden Knights.
Gushchin had been having a terrific preseason, which was capped by his five-point night against the Vegas Golden Knights NHL squad.
"Impressive. [He was] really good at the end of the game. I liked his effort," Warsofsky said about Gushchin's game. "I know the points will stand out, but it's just the effort to recover the puck on the one goal—the effort on the wall to make the play to Sturm on the Cardwell goal."
But has he done enough to make the opening night roster?
"I thought he's had a really good camp. It is a discussion that we will have in the next day or two...He's put himself in a good spot."
Ethan Cardwell scored the game-winning goal with 12 seconds in regulation. Gushchin earned his third assist in a row after he created a turnover in the neutral zone to find Nico Sturm for the two-on-one.
Like Gushchin, Cardwell is another Sharks prospect on the bubble to make the opening night roster.
"Both those guys put themselves in good positions. I think they both have made mistakes, and they made mistakes tonight," Warsofsky said of Gushchin and Cardwell. "But what I like about them is they have been mentally tough. Competing. Cards loses his guy on the [back check]. Goosh made some decisions away from the puck that need to be cleaned up. But again, they keep playing. This is a game of mistakes. Every guy is going to make a mistake, but we just stuck with it, not just those two guys, but as a group."
As for other bubble players like Luca Cagnoni, Jack Thompson, and Givani Smith, Warsofsky said their play makes decisions for him and GM Mike Grier incredibly difficult.
"I thought Cagnoni was really good. [He] lost coverage on the one goal against in front of the net. That's something that he's going to have to continue to work on. But you saw his game grow as the game went on," Warsofsky said. "I thought Givani Smith was really good early. Did some really good things. He's looked good all camp. And Thompson did some good things, too. We have some tough decisions to make. [We'll sit down and talk with Mike and his staff] and find the best guys we think can help us."
The deadline for NHL teams to submit their opening night rosters is Monday at 2 p.m. PST.
