Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports - Blackwood Avoids Serious Injury; Magnus Chrona Feels Ready For Sharks Challenge

San Jose Sharks goalie Mackenzie Blackwood avoids a long-term injury but will miss a short period. Magnus Chrona will fill in on the roster and feels ready to prove his first two games aren't who he is.

Sharks head coach David Quinn told the media today that he doesn't expect Blackwood to be out more than a week to 15 days.

Magnus Chrona was recalled from the San Jose Barracuda today and will likely get at least one start during this stint in the NHL. The Sharks play a back-to-back over the weekend in Dallas on Saturday and Minnesota on Sunday.

"I'm just grateful for the opportunity again," Chrona said today. "Hopefully, it can go better than last time, right?"

In his two NHL appearances, Chrona has given up eight goals. His only start was against the Edmonton Oilers, where he was basically thrown to the wolves, a.k.a. going against Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

"I think those two games were honestly good experiences to have just to have had those minutes and to see what it's like," Chrona explained. "[I got to] see what I need to improve on and what the difference is from AHL to the NHL and the speed and the smartness of the players. Then how I can adapt to that and play a little bit smarter for for the NHL."

Chrona has worked closely with Evgeni Nabokov and now Thomas Speer.

"He is a very professional goaltending coach," Chrona said of Nabokov. "He's there every single day for us, working extra every single day. He always has something for us."

"Just trust my style. Adapt some things that work at the NHL level," Chrona said about what Speer has told him. "Keep those small details I need to have in the back of my mind when playing and practicing."

Chrona will likely get a start on the road, something he hasn't done during his two games in the NHL.

Chrona likely isn't ready for a full-time NHL role, but this extended experience will help his development if and when he eventually returns to the AHL.
