Tomas Hertl and the San Jose Sharks shocked the hockey world when he was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights yesterday.

Fans were surprised, saddened, and angry that the team's fan favorite would now play for its biggest rival. For 11 seasons, Hertl did nothing but use his contagious smile to make fans fall in love with him. The mantra of "Fun must be always" defined Hertl's personality.

There wasn't one person who could say a bad thing about Hertl as a hockey player and, more importantly, as a person.

"I didn't expect Hertl to be traded," Sharks veteran Marc-Edouard Vlasic said. "The guy was very loved by his teammates, coaches, and fans. [I] played with him for 11 years. We got along really, really well—too well. [I'm] sad to see him go."

Vlasic reminisced on his favorite moments with Hertl. He said he sent him the video of Hertl's game six, double overtime shorthanded goal against the Golden Knights in 2019 when he learned about the trade.

"I said, remember this? Now he's got to play for Vegas," Vlasic said. "I wish them all the best. He has a chance to win, and it's good for him."

Vlasic couldn't pick a favorite on-ice memory of Hertl, but more so the moments they shared off the ice.

"The favorite memories are just hanging out with them at the rink, making fun of each other. Talking F1. Talking soccer. Talking The Office as well. My favorite memories are those ones," Vlasic said. "Not necessarily on the ice, but in the locker room, on the bus, on road trips. At dinner on the road. He was a fun guy to have around."

Hertl jumped onto the scene with his insane performance against the New York Rangers in his third career game. He scored four goals, including the iconic through-the-legs finish.

It is only fitting that his final goal as a member of the San Jose Sharks came against the Rangers. With San Jose reeling in the standings and a Rangers team with Stanley Cup aspirations, Hertl once again broke the hearts of the Rangers.

Tomas Hertl will be missed at all levels of the San Jose Sharks.
