Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports - BREAKING: Sharks Trade Tomas Hertl To Rival Golden Knights

The San Jose Sharks have traded Tomas Hertl to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Reports suggest that trade talks have been happening for a couple of days. Hertl is in the second year of an 8-year $65,100,000 contract. He also has a full no-move clause, meaning he had to approve the deal.

There have been reports that Hertl might want a change of scenery to have a chance at winning. Hertl is currently on IR but is expected to return this season.

In 48 games this season, he has 34 points (15 goals, 19 assists). He has represented the Sharks admirably and has been the de facto captain, while Logan Couture has been injured this season.

Along with Hertl, the Sharks are sending Vegas third-round picks in 2025 and 2027. In return for Hertl, the Sharks received Vegas' 1st-round pick in 2025 and David Edstrom.

The Sharks retained 17% of Hertl's contract, meaning he will count at $6.75 million against the Golden Knights cap.

Edstrom was Vegas' first-round pick at the 2023 NHL Draft and is currently playing in the SHL. In 42 games for Frölunda HC, he has six goals and 11 assists.

This trade sends waves throughout the entire Sharks organization. Hertl spent 11 seasons with the Sharks and played 712 games. He scored 218 goals and had 266 assists. Hertl is a fan favorite and will forever be loved in San Jose.
