The San Jose Sharks (15-35-5) face the Vegas Golden Knights (31-17-6) for the fourth time this season in a Presidents Day Monday afternoon game.
The Sharks were riding high the last time these two teams matched up. San Jose had just completed a crazy comeback against the Detroit Red Wings and looked like they were doing it again against the Knights, but fell 5-4 in a shootout.
Sharks head coach David Quinn confirmed that Mackenzie Blackwood will start in goal for the Sharks. He also told reporters that Henry Thrun could return to the lineup after missing some time with an upper-body injury.
San Jose will look for a more consistent effort and timely thinking on the ice today. Quinn wants better game management from his players and gave an example of what he means.
"You're up three to one with a minute to go on the second period, right? You're not trying to get a goal. You're playing a little bit safer brand of hockey because you just need to get another period of three to one," Quinn explained. "Would you like to get the fourth goal? Of course, you would, but you're not chasing the fourth goal, and you're playing a little bit more conservative."
The reigning Stanley Cup Champions could be getting even better as there is a chance that Shea Theodore returns to the Golden Knights lineup.
Alexander Barabanov hasn't had a good season and was moved to the fourth line in practice yesterday.
Sharks projected line combinations:
Zetterlund-Granlund-Duclair
Hoffman-Eklund-Kunin
Zadina-Sturm-Labanc
Barabanov-Carpenter-Bailey
Ferraro-Emberson
Thrun-Rutta
Vlasic-Addison
Blackwood
Kahkonen
Puck drop is at 1 p.m. and can be seen on NBC Sports California or the Sharks Audio Network.
