The 2023 Rookie Faceoff continues tonight as the San Jose Sharks take on the Vegas Golden Knights at The Dollar Loan Center.

The San Jose Sharks take on the Vegas Golden Knights at 7 p.m. at The Dollar Loan Center, the home of the Henderson Silver Knights.

San Jose Barracuda head coach John McCarthy is the head man behind the bench for the tournament. After the morning skate, he told The Hockey News that Magnus Chrona would start in goal.

"I think the same as any goalie, [a] calming presence," McCarthy said about what he wants with Chrona. "You can kind of tell what the team feels about goalies by the way they play in front of them. They play confident knowing that they have a guy back there that they can trust."

Chrona was acquired via trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning and signed his entry-level contract this past summer. Last season, Chrona played for Denver University in the NCAA.

As for the players not playing tonight, McCarthy said he will mix up the lineup to give some other guys a look.

Based on the morning skate, it sounds like William Eklund, Danil Gushchin, Luca Cagnoni, Tristen Robins, and Gannon Larouque won't be in the lineup tonight.

Kasper Halttunen stood out in yesterday's game. Listed at 6'3 " and 196 lbs, the Finnish forward has a tremendous shot.

"He can shoot," McCarthy said. "[He] did some good things. [He] made some plays in the offensive zone. So he stuck out in a positive way."

Halttunen played with Robins and Eklund last game and looked good, but his line will be different tonight.

The goal for McCarthy is to get a look at everyone on the trip for the San Jose Sharks.

"Everybody's gonna get an opportunity," McCarthy said. "I want to give the try-out guys a look."

The Golden Knights fell to the Anaheim Ducks 4-2 last night with around 4,000 fans in attendance.

The San Jose Sharks will stream the game to the Sharks Audio Network with a video stream at sjsharks.com.

San Jose Barracuda broadcaster Nick Nollenberger will be on the call for all San Jose Sharks games during the 2023 Rookie Faceoff.
