San Jose Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky said he doesn't rule out Macklin Celebrini for Friday's game against the Winnipeg Jets.

Celebrini was placed on IR Saturday, retroactive to Oct. 10. He is first eligible to return on Oct. 18, the same day the Sharks visit the Jets.

Despite not being ruled out for Friday's game, Warsofsky told reporters that the No. 1 pick wouldn't travel with the team to face the Dallas Stars or Chicago Blackhawks.

"It's a week-to-week thing, and he's working extremely hard to get back," Warsofsky said. "He's putting a lot of work into it. We'll just kind of take it day by day."

Warsofsky declined to mention Celebrini's exact injury despite reports of him dealing with a hip injury. He continued to say "lower body" and gave nothing more.

Celebrini has been rehabbing non-stop since getting placed on IR and is trying to return as fast as possible. As an 18-year-old rookie who played one game in the NHL, picking up an injury during the season can be mentally challenging.

"He's in the rehab process. He hasn't gone on the ice yet. I haven't checked in with our training staff today yet, so we'll see," Warsofsky said. "I'm sure he's frustrated, and it's a learning moment for him in his career. He's going to have a long career, and he's going to have some injuries and things along the way that will pop up. I know he's working extremely hard to get back as quickly as he can. He's just taking it day by day, and it's just part of the game of hockey."

Warsofsky said there is a plan for Celerbini's eventual return to the lineup.

"We have a really good plan from our training staff and our sports performance staff, what we want to do," Warsofsky said. "There's another road trip coming up after that. We're really just taking this thing day by day."
