Top goaltending prospect Yaroslav Askarov had the perfect start to his San Jose Sharks organization career.
The netminder welcomed himself with a 22-save shutout over the Ontario Reign last night for the San Jose Barracuda. He did his iconic shutout celebration of closing the net onto the ice.
When Askarov spoke to the media during Sharks training camp, he said he's been doing this for two years.
"I'm just trying to [have] fun every time I'm on the ice," Askarov said. "It was two years ago, after shoutout, I just closed the net. It's [not meant to be] disrespect for the other team. It's [just] I close the net."
San Jose got a solid performance from Vitek Vanecek last night, but Askarov is the future of the Sharks crease. Last night was Askarov's 10th career shutout in the AHL.
