San Jose Sharks rookie Sam Dickinson has officially played nine games in the NHL, which means he is one game away from burning his first year of his entry-level contract.
Dickinson, 19, has played well in his nine games but has yet to record a point and has a -4 rating. The Sharks now have to make a decision, they can either keep him in the NHL, and burn that first year of his ELC, or send him back down to the OHL where he would join the London Knights.
In a recent interview with Max Miller of Sharks Hockey Digest. Dickinson made it clear that he knows that the decision is out of his hands, but would like the opportunity to stay with the club.
“There’s just more to be learned here for anybody. I think for me personally, I’d like to say that this is the place for me, and that I’m prepared to make the jump to this level full-time,” Dickinson said on Wednesday. “But again, that’s not my decision and out of my hands. “Every game, every day, every practice, just work as hard as I can, compete and prove that I’m able to stay here.”
Unfortunately, there is no word as of now in terms of the direction that the team will go. If Dickinson is staying with the team, he will be ready. If not, we all know he will go on to dominate at the OHL level and potentially help London win another Memorial Cup.
