The San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars have the assets to pull off a big draft day deal.

Dallas has both Matt Dumba and Ilya Lyubushkin, and it looks like both could be potential cap dumps as the team looks to shake things up. As for the Sharks, they have over $53 million in cap space and could easily take on both contracts.

Dumba carries a $3.7 million cap hit and has one year left on his deal. Lyubushkin has two years remaining at an AAV of $3.2 million. That’s a combined $7 million the Sharks would be adding, and it would also give them two veterans to help solidify their blue line.

Adding Dumba and Lyubushkin would bring a lot of defensive support to a young team that could use more stability. It could also help Sam Dickinson adjust to the NHL, giving him a more reliable partner to play alongside.

In return, Dallas may only be looking for a draft pick or a player with a smaller cap hit, like Vincent Desharnais, who comes in at $2 million.

It feels like Dumba and Lyubushkin are on their way out of Dallas. If Mike Grier is open to taking both on, it could give San Jose’s defense an immediate boost as part of a smart salary cap dump.
