According to multiple reports, San Jose Sharks forward William Eklund will miss the 2025 IIHF World Championships.

Eklund suffered a laceration on his wrist from a skate blade, which required three surgeries to repair. Thankfully, according to his agent Todd Diamond, there were no severed tendons or nerves.

The injury occurred during a pre-tournament tune-up game for Sweden. It was an unfortunate play along the end boards as Eklund attempted to stop Czechia's Filip Hronek, whose skate came up and caught Eklund in the wrist area.

Eklund immediately went to the bench and was later transported to a local hospital for treatment. His agent has confirmed that he’ll be sidelined for approximately three months, but is expected to be ready for the start of next season.

It’s a tough break for Eklund, who was set to represent Sweden on home soil with a chance to compete for gold. Now, instead of playing, he’ll be watching and cheering on his teammates from home.
