Five former San Jose Sharks players were placed on NHL waivers today.
Here is the list of players waived by their respective teams:
Calgary Flames - G Devin Cooley
Boston Bruins - F Jeffery Viel
New Jersey Devils - D Nick DeSimone
LA Kings - F Jack Studnicka
Buffalo Sabres - G James Reimer
The Sharks do not appear to have placed any players on waivers. Finalized NHL opening night rosters are due tomorrow at 2 p.m. PST. Each roster must be cut to 23 skaters.
San Jose may have to waive a player or two to reduce its roster to 23 skaters. Givani Smith was a candidate to be waived today if the Sharks wanted to send him down. Due to his waiver status, Smith would have needed to be waived today to be sent down before tomorrow's roster deadline.
Some notable names on placed on waivers today include Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Matt Murray, New York Islanders forward Pierre Engvall, and former Flames first-round pick Jacob Pelletier.
