Former San Jose Sharks Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci have been eliminated from the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. Unfortunately, their playoff run came to an end last night with the Dallas Stars as they lost to the Edmonton Oilers in five games.
Granlund and Ceci were acquired from the Sharks by the Stars back on Feb. 1, as Dallas prepared for a Cup run. While they looked to be the Stanley Cup favorite, they ran into a very good Oilers team that has now punched their ticket back to the Finals against the Florida Panthers in a rematch from last year.
In 18 games with the Stars, Granlund had five goals and five assists for 10 points and finished fourth on their team in playoff scoring. As for Ceci, he finished 15th with no goals and three assists.
Both players are pending unrestricted free agents and are set to hit the open market on July 1, unless they reach an agreement with the Stars before that. Dallas does have a few other pending unrestricted free agents that they will also need to deal with, which could put Ceci and Granlund on the back burner until the others are taken care of.
However, there is a case to be made for at least Granlund to reach an extension with the organization, since it looks like he has found a home there alongside a number of his Finnish countrymen.
