Dean Tait - Hockey Shots - Anthony Duclair Explains Why the Sharks Benched Him

Due to a coach's decision, the San Jose Sharks made Anthony Duclair a healthy scratch against the Colorado Avalanche.

Duclair spoke to the media today about his perspective on the benching. Although he wouldn't get into the details of his conversation with head coach David Quinn, he told the gist.

"Just be better. Work harder. Skate more," Duclair explained.

Mikael Granlund scored what looked to be the game-tying goal against the Arizona Coyotes, but Duclair was offside upon review.

"I just gotta skate more. You got to track back and work harder, that's it," Duclair said.

Quinn said that seeing a game from the press box can be helpful for a player as a way for them to mentally reset and see different parts of the game.

"Sometimes, sitting above and watching kind of gives a chance to press reset and get back at it," Quinn said before the Avalanche game.

"[It's a] different perspective watching from the sidelines," Duclair said. "You just try to turn the page and move on."

Duclair's skating was the emphasis between both coach and player.

"Him skating both ways and in all three zones," Quinn said this morning. "When he does that, he's a really good player in this league."

Duclair is ready to get back into the lineup and knows what the Sharks need to do to beat the Los Angeles Kings tonight.

"A strong physical team, lot of skill," Duclair said about LA. "We saw last game that we got to stay out of the box. I think not just last game, even prior to that, we're giving [teams] too many easy chances, and top powerplay units in the league are going to make you pay. It's no different tonight. [We have to] make sure that we're ready to roll right from the puck drop."

Duclair skated in his regular position alongside Mikael Granlund and Fabian Zetterlund this morning.
