The San Jose Sharks have recalled Scott Sabourin from the AHL ahead of their five-game road trip.

Sabourin has played 29 games for the San Jose Barracuda this season, scoring nine goals and adding four assists. Sabourin had two goals in his last game with the Cuda.

While he isn't there to score goals, Sabourin wears a letter on his jersey. The 31-year-old plays with some snarl. He isn't the best skater, but his ability to be a pest on the forecheck and bring a physical brand of hockey is something the Sharks desperately need.

He has played 43 career NHL games. 42 of those games came with the Ottawa Senators, with the other as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Sharks' next opponent. He has two goals and six assists in the NHL.

Sabourin and Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews gave us one of the funniest non-verbal trash-talking moments the NHL has ever seen in his first stint with the Senators.

Matthews looks at the back of Sabourin's jersey as if saying, "Who are you?"

Sabourin joins a Sharks team on its second 11-game losing streak of the season. Head coach David Quinn has not been happy with the lack of compete over a full 60-minute game.

"I didn't really love our compete tonight," Quinn said after Saturday night's 4-1 loss to the Maple Leafs. "I thought we were outworked and competed too often tonight. [It] picked up [and got] better through stretches."

Logan Couture is close to returning to the lineup but won't play against Toronto tomorrow. Sabourin could make his San Jose Sharks debut. A player must be sent back down to open up a roster spot for Couture's return to action.

While his stint might be short in the NHL, if Sabourin gets into a game, his impact on what the Sharks need should be felt.
