Anthony Duclair has taken over the San Jose Sharks locker room.
He has become the go-to guy for support and encouragement. How he conducts himself is what teams look for to build a winning culture.
Duclair is apparently Fabian Zetterlund's dad. The upbeat winger revealed to THN last night that he and Zetterlund have become very close.
"My son! He's great," Duclair said about Zetterlund postgame. "He's awesome. Great game for him."
Duclair has taken Zetterlund under his wing. Both players have size, speed, and the ability to score big goals. Duclair is the perfect player to help Zetterlund gain confidence in the NHL.
"Obviously [it's] special [for him] to come back here. The team he got drafted by and started his career with. It was a big one for him," Duclair said about Zetterlund. "He's proved a lot. He can do so much out there. He can dish. He can snipe. He's a big body, so he can play physical. It was a great all-around game for him."
Duclair wouldn't forget his center, Mikael Granlund, either.
"I told him right away that was a top three pass I've ever gotten in my career for a goal," Duclair said. "[I'm] not really surprised coming from him. He's been doing that for a long time. It was a great pass."
There have been many moments during practices that show what Duclair brings away from his on-ice play.
Duclair's two goals against the New Jersey Devils last night were significant for him and the game. His second goal of the game turned out to be the game-winning goal.
"Finally got some chemistry between us three," Duclair said about his linemates. "When the whole team is in this game like that, it gives everybody confidence. It was a great effort all around."
Last night was San Jose's first road win of the season. Duclair said that getting the game's first goal gave the Sharks a different vibe on the bench.
"It's a big road trip for us. That was a big emphasis we talked about before the game," Duclair said about changing the vibe. We got our first road win, which is big for us. We just played a solid game all around. It's nice when all four lines are rolling. It gives us confidence."
Duclair has been the go-to guy for players when they need extra support. Many moments in practices and games show he has become one of the most loved players in the locker room.
After not scoring a point in eight games, Duclair returns to his goal-scoring ways. He will look to continue his strong play against the team that drafted him, the New York Rangers, on Sunday.
