Former San Jose Sharks defenseman Kyle Burroughs is supporting his former teammate Ty Emberson from a distance.
In Elliotte Friedman's latest 'Written 32 Thoughts', Burroughs supported Emberson in what it is like playing in a Canadian market.
After being acquired by Edmonton this summer, Emberson has struggled to stay in the lineup. He's played five games and is a minus-three. He was most recently a healthy scratch against the Carolina Hurricanes during yesterday's Frozen Frenzy.
Burroughs has experience playing in a Canadian market with the Vancouver Canucks, and knows the challenges of playing in a high-pressure market like Edmonton.
"Kings defenceman Kyle Burroughs on Edmonton's Ty Emberson, a scratch from Tuesday's overtime loss to Carolina: "I told him to relax and make a good first pass. He'll get another 15 points just doing that." The two were teammates last season in San Jose, before Burroughs was sent to Los Angeles and Emberson to Alberta. The Oilers liked Emberson as an under-the-radar acquisition, but he's struggled so far. Burroughs preached patience, but admitted he thought the adjustment could be trouble," Friedman wrote.
Burroughs hasn't been in the Los Angeles Kings' lineup every night, experiencing a similar fate to Emberson. Burroughs has played in four games and has one assist.
"(Ty's) never seen anything like this," Burroughs said, referring to the Canadian spotlight. "He's from Wisconsin, small-town guy, never played anywhere like it."
Friedman wrote that Emberson and his wife recently adopted a dog from a shelter, making the case for even more heartwarming moments.
Former Sharks supporting former Sharks despite being on rival teams will always show that life is bigger than the game of hockey.
