Kyle Burroughs signed with the San Jose Sharks to become a full-time NHLer.

San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier signed Kyle Burroughs to add depth on defense, but Burroughs has become more than that. 

On July 1, Burroughs signed a 3-year, $3.3 million contract with San Jose. Although he wasn't in the lineup every night for the Vancouver Canucks, Burroughs was a leader. 

In his brief time with San Jose, Burroughs has been paired with Mario Ferraro on the team's No. 1 defense pair. 

"Yeah, it's great. He's a high-energy guy. He skates super well," Burroughs said about Ferraro. "I think we're trying to be simple, help out offensively as much as we can, and play simple and hard to play against. Don't give those guys on the other team an inch. We're working at it, and I think we're just trying to get better and better."

He introduced himself to Sharks fans on opening night with a big hit and fight. 

Through the first four games, Burroughs has averaged 18:18 TOI per game. That number should continue to grow as Burroughs looks to be the QB of the first powerplay unit against the Nashville Predators. 

Burroughs is proving to San Jose Sharks head coach David Quinn that he can be relied upon no matter the situation. Being an effective right-handed defenseman in the NHL has a lot of value, but Burroughs shows he is a significant piece of the Sharks puzzle.
