San Jose Sharks head coach David Quinn got his NHL coaching career started in New York, but returning for a second time after leaving, he says the feeling is different.
Quinn spent three seasons as the head coach of the New York Rangers and had a record of 96-87-25. He had the pleasure of coaching Hall of Famer Henrik Lundqvist.
When Quinn returned to Madison Square Garden for the first time last season, he hadn't earned his first win as the Sharks' coach. Erik Karlsson changed that.

"[It feels] a lot different than last year," Quinn said about returning to MSG. "When you work some places, there is always an emotional tie to it, but the further removed you get, it's just different."
His Sharks are trending in the right direction. San Jose earned its first road win on Friday and is getting some reinforcements back from injuries. Alexander Barabanov and Jan Rutta are expected to return to the lineup tonight.
"I didn't love our game against New Jersy, but [we] certainly did enough to win, which we have done a couple of times during this stretch," Quinn said. "There are things that we've got to be a lot better at, which we addressed this morning."
San Jose hasn't had much practice time during this road trip. Since playing the Boston Bruins last Thursday, San Jose has had two morning skates and zero scheduled non-gameday practices. The first was before the Bruins game, and the next came today.
"It has been tough without the practice time, so we've had to learn through video," Quinn said. "We've had to balance preparing and not overdoing it. I think our guys feel pretty good about where we are at mentally. When you start having some success and win some hockey games, you feel better about yourself."
After starting the season 0-10-1, Quinn has his team playing much better. His drive for improvement proves that he continues to be the right guy to lead the Sharks.
"I would probably say that no team has faced more adversity and gone through as much as we have up to this point in the season," Quinn said. "We've done a hell of a job climbing out of it. You never want to start the season the way we did. I think our guys have done a nice job keeping it together, building some camaraderie, and playing more like a team. We're certainly trending in the right direction."
