San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier met with the team yesterday and told them what was expected.

The San Jose Sharks are tied for the worst start to an NHL season, and GM Mike Grier spoke to the team directly yesterday.

"I met with the players today. I've been meeting with the coaching staff over the last few days trying to put my finger on what's going on and what we can do better to correct this," Grier told THN yesterday. "Everyone knows what the standard is and what I expect of them."

This was a closed-door meeting, and head coach David Quinn said that he was not included in the meeting. Injured captain Logan Couture was also included.

Alternate captain Mario Ferraro described the meeting as important.

"It's important for us. We obviously know that our play hasn't been to the standard it should be," Ferraro said. "Even if we hadn't had that meeting, we should know already. It's important reinforcement to hear from him."

Confidence has been lacking for the Sharks, and each game is a new chance to change that.

"I think we're gonna build confidence by seeing one good shift and making it two good shifts," Ferraro said. "Every good shift leads into the other. We're going to build confidence by seeing each other work."

Although it is cliche, Ferraro describes precisely what the coaches have been preaching. Quinn has been looking for players to simplify their play and work as a unit.

"A win would do wonders for this group in so many ways," Quinn said. "You can go about things the right way you [and] can put in a great honest effort, you can do all the things you need to do, but you want to get rewarded for it. That's really where we're at."

Quinn said they made some changes to their game plan ahead of tonight's game versus the Philadelphia Flyers.
