The St. Louis Blues are preparing for what should be a busy summer for them. After taking a notable step in the right direction this season and making the playoffs, the expectation is that they will look to strengthen their roster during this off-season.

One area that the Blues should aim to improve this off-season is their top nine. They would benefit from getting more secondary scoring, and the Chicago Blackhawks have an interesting pending unrestricted free agent who should be on St. Louis' radar because of it - Ryan Donato.

If the Blues brought in Donato, he could be a perfect fit on their third line and power play. This is because the 29-year-old is a skilled offensive player who is capable of playing both down the middle and on either wing. Thus, he would provide the Blues with several different options to consider if signed.

Donato is also coming off an excellent season, which undoubtedly adds to his appeal. The 2014 second-round pick impressed offensively with the Blackhawks in 2024-25, as he reached new career highs with 31 goals, 31 assists, and 62 points in 80 games. A player who has the potential to provide offense like this should grab the attention of the Blues.

Nevertheless, it would be massive if the Blues stole Donato from one of their biggest rivals. It will be interesting to see if the Blues target him if he hits the free-agent market on July 1 from here.
