Nikita Kucherov is inching closer to making history.
The 2023-24 season has been a spectacular one for Nikita Kucherov. He has crushed his previous Lightning record for points, posting 136 in 76 games thus far. With that, he has also set a new record for most assists by a winger in a single season, passing Jaromir Jagr's 87 helpers in 1995-96.
While Kucherov has already hit massive milestones with his assists this season, he still has time to make more history. Kucherov needs just seven assists to become the first winger in NHL history to hit 100 in a single season.

Kucherov, 30, has five games left to reach the 100-assist mark, and he certainly has a real shot of doing so. Over his last five games alone, he has recorded 11 assists.
It has been a simply dominant season for Kucherov, and he is making a real case to win the Hart Memorial Trophy this year because of it. However, Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon have had marvelous seasons themselves, so he has some big-time competition during this final stretch. Hitting the 100-assist mark would help build on his case.
