Nikita Kucherov is continuing to build on his Hall of Fame case.
Tampa Bay Lightning superstar forward Nikita Kucherov is having a truly spectacular season and is a Hart Trophy favorite because of it. He currently leads the NHL with 122 points in 68 games.
He is not slowing down, either. Last night (March 21), he picked up four assists in the Lightning's latest win against the San Jose Sharks. With that, he hit the 80-assist mark for the third time in his career and made history in the process.
Per NHL Public Relations, Kucherov is just the seventh player in NHL history to have at least three 80-assist seasons. So, which other players have done this? Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr, Paul Coffey, Adam Oates, and Denis Savard. So, in other words, some of the NHL's greatest players ever.
This is some genuinely elite company for Kucherov to be with, and he is only boosting his resume for his inevitable Hall of Fame induction.
Kucherov has also been the NHL's hottest player lately. He has a remarkable 15 points over his last four games and 24 points over his previous 10. Along with that, he also broke his own record by extending his current assist streak to 12 games.
