Calle Jarnkrok Returns to Maple Leafs Practice With Non-Playing Group After Missing Few Days With Injury

Toronto's non-playing group practiced Saturday morning following the Montreal-bound player's morning skate.

Calle Jarnkrok returned to Maple Leafs practice on Saturday after missing several days with an injury.

The 32-year-old had something come up in practice earlier this week and was considered day-to-day, Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said on Wednesday. Jarnkrok hasn't appeared in a pre-season game yet for Toronto but did skate with William Nylander and Max Domi during the non-game group's practice on Saturday.

After playing 15:37 in Montreal on Friday, Tyler Bertuzzi returned to Toronto's top line with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner. Max Ellis skates in what's likely a placeholder role alongside John Tavares and Sam Lafferty, who also played in Friday's game.

After acting as a placeholder with Matthews and Marner during Friday's main-group practice, Bobby McMann is again skating with the non-playing players. This time, though, the 27-year-old is skating on the fourth line with Ryan Reaves and David Kampf.

This is McMann's third practice after missing the beginning of Maple Leafs training camp with a lingering injury from last season.

Joseph Woll isn't skating because of flu-like symptoms, per the Maple Leafs.

John Klingberg won't be out for "too long," Keefe told reporters on Friday. Klingberg was listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury he suffered in Wednesday's game against Buffalo.

Three of Toronto's top six defensemen will play in Montreal on Saturday, meaning Timothy Liljegren and Mark Giordano likely skated today with the non-playing group.

The Maple Leafs have two games remaining in a busy span which sees them play six games in eight days (from Sept. 24 to Oct. 2). Toronto will play Montreal twice more (Saturday and Monday) before getting two pre-season games against the Detroit Red Wings next week.

After that, the regular season begins.
