After being traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sept. 28, former Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Emil Andrae has already been placed on NHL waivers.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed a pair of players on waivers on Wednesday. Following their 7-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday, the Blue Jackets have placed left winger Danton Heinen and defenseman Emil Andrae on waivers.

Andrae was a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs for a very short while. He was acquired by Leafs GM John Chayka from the Philadelphia Flyers in the Joseph Woll and Simon Benoit trade.

From that point, he then participated in the Maple Leafs' training camp, and played two pre-season games for the club, too.

However, a day before Toronto's season opener, he was traded to the Blue Jackets in the package that saw Matthew Knies get dealt to Columbus with Kirill Marchenko coming the other way.

The full trade also brought goaltender Elvis Merzlikins and left winger Miles Wood to Toronto, and left winger Steven Lorentz joined Columbus.

Andrae, 24, has played five games with the Blue Jackets this season, providing two assists while averaging 10:33 of ice time per game. Last season, he made 61 appearances for the Flyers, posting two goals and 13 points with an average ice time of 15:20.

He hasn't featured for the Blue Jackets since the Maple Leafs visited Columbus on Oct. 20, which was marked as Marchenko's return game. In that contest, Andrae earned one helper and had 10:22 of ice time.

The left-handed blueliner is in the first year of a two-year contract that he signed with Toronto as an RFA. The Swede earns $1.55 million against the salary cap and has RFA arbitration rights when his contract expires following 2027-28.

If Andrae clears waivers, he'll be assigned to the AHL's Cleveland Monsters. He played seven games in the minors last year with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, featuring in a total of 103 regular-season games in the American League.
