The Canadian Open is being held in Hamilton, Ontario, just a short drive away from Toronto.
French golfer Victor Perez dawned a familiar jersey when getting ready to tee off at The Rink Hole during the final day of the RBC Canadian Open.
The 31-year-old approached the 13th hole on Sunday wearing an Auston Matthews jersey. Fans then began chanting "Go Leafs Go", according to The Athletic's Lukas Weese, who captured the photo.
The annual Canadian Open is taking place at Hamilton Golf and Country Club, featuring the likes of Rory McIlroy, Canadians Mackenzie Hughes and Cory Conners, and Perez, among others.
The Rink Hole allows golfers to have a unique experience when teeing off. They're surrounded by cheering fans, like Perez was, who are kept behind boards, giving it a hockey rink feel.
Matthews finished the regular season winning the Rocket Richard with 69 goals in 81 games. The 26-year-old also had 38 assists on the year, giving himself a new career-high in points with 107.
He's entering the first year of a four-year, $53 million contract, which will make him make $13.25 million annually. Currently, Matthews has the highest cap hit of any player in the NHL, with second being the Colorado Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon, whose contract has an annual average value of $12.6 million.
Matthews was nominated for the Ted Lindsay Award, given to the NHL's Most Valuable Player. Nikita Kucherov and MacKinnon were the other two players nominated for the award as voted on by the NHLPA.
