There were eight trades on Wednesday with one of the biggest being in the Atlantic Divison as Tarasenko moves to the Panthers from Ottawa.
The Maple Leafs have already made one trade, but if Wednesday taught us anything, it's that players are coming off the trade board quick.
Toronto acquired Ilya Lyubushkin on Mar. 1 from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick. The Ducks retained 50% of Lyubushkin's salary while the Carolina Hurricanes, who acquired a 2024 sixth-round pick, took on 25% of the defenseman's salary.
There have been eight trades since the move that Toronto made last Friday. A few big names landing in the Atlantic Division, too, with the Florida Panthers acquiring Vladimir Tarasenko and the Boston Bruins potentially being involved in a three-way trade.
"A lot of moves happened today. I'm sure the next couple of days will be pretty hectic," Auston Matthews said following the Maple Leafs' 2-1 overtime win over Buffalo on Wednesday.
"I think we're all aware and there's chat about it. But it's not too deep. We still got a couple days. A lot of things can happen and we'll see what happens."
There's a lot of chatter about what Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving needs to do before Friday's 3 p.m. deadline. Some might say he needs to acquire another defenseman, others think the team needs a depth forward.
You could also make the argument that Toronto should add both.
As Matthews said, there's some discussion about it within the group, but they're more focused on the next game ahead, which is against the Boston Bruins on Thursday night.
"I think we're just focused on the next game, and I mean, whatever they do, we'll be ready for that," William Nylander added on Wednesday evening.

During every trade deadline, there are players who feel at unease because of the chance they get traded. Wednesday is a prime example of the amount of craziness that can happen at this point of the season.
But how does Tyler Bertuzzi — who has 12 goals and 17 assists in 61 games with the Maple Leafs this season — feel about this year's trade deadline?
"I have no idea. I don't have social media."
