Marner has been off the ice for the last couple of days as his injury hasn't responded well to being on the ice, according to Keefe.
There is still no clear timeline for when Mitch Marner will be able to return to the Toronto Maple Leafs' lineup.
The talented forward has been out since Mar. 7 when he reportedly suffered a high-ankle sprain in a 4-1 loss to the Boston Bruins.
"He won't be coming on the trip with us," Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said following practice at Ford Performance Centre on Monday. "We're trying to get to the point that he's comfortable throughout the week
"He's a day-to-day away from being day-to-day."
Keefe said Marner did not skate on Monday after he had previously skated twice before.
"That's where the (first) day-to-day comes," Keefe said. "It's just not responding the way they had hoped. They're just stepping back with it."
The Maple Leafs kept their forward lines the same as they have been without Marner in the lineup. They made one change from their lineup and dropped a 5-4 shootout decision to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Ryan Reaves will draw in for Noah Gregor.
Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving dismissed concern about Marner's injury and how long he might be out of the lineup with the ailment.
"He's been off the ice the last couple of days and we'll ramp him up this week," Treliving told TSN from the GM meetings in West Palm Beach, Florida. "We'll take it day-by-day and see how he's feeling but hopefully he's back sooner rather than later.
Marner has already missed three games and will miss games against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday followed by the Washington Capitals on Wednesday. He has 25 goals and 51 assists in 62 games this season.
