The deadline to sign Lisowsky to an entry-level contract is Saturday, June 1, however, multiple reports suggest that won't happen.
The Toronto Maple Leafs won't be signing one of their prospects, Brandon Lisowsky, to an entry-level contract.
According to the Toronto Star's Kevin McGran, the Maple Leafs aren't offering a contract to the 20-year-old forward, allowing him to re-enter this year's NHL Draft. The Athletic's Joshua Kloke also reports that Toronto won't sign the prospect, ahead of the June 1 deadline.
Toronto drafted Lisowsky in the seventh round (218th overall) in the 2022 NHL Draft. He finished second in goals and third in points among the team. Lisowsky scored 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 16 games for Saskatoon in the playoffs this season.
If the 5-foot-9 forward doesn't get drafted, which could be the likely scenario for a player entering his overage season in the WHL, he will become a free agent on July 1.
In the 2022 NHL Draft, Toronto picked Minten (38th overall), Nick Moldenhauer (95th overall), Dennis Hildeby (122nd overall), Nikita Grebenkin (135th overall), and Lisowsky as one of the final selections in the two-day event.
He was the smallest player picked by the Maple Leafs in 2022, the final NHL Draft with former Toronto GM Kyle Dubas at the helm.
