Berube said in his first media availability as head coach of the Maple Leafs that there will be discussions surrounding the rest of his coaching staff.

After another disappointing Toronto Maple Leafs playoff loss, it's time to break up the core four forwards and that might mean moving on from Mitch Marner, who becomes a free agent at the end of the 2024-25 season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs could have another addition to their coaching staff incoming.

According to Patrick Johnston and Mike Raptis of The Province, Mike Yeo has left his position as an assistant coach with the Vancouver Canucks' to take an opportunity "closer to home."

"The Canucks offered a one-year contract extension to Yeo, but he decided to explore other opportunities. Yeo’s departure was on positive terms, another source said. The move caught some in the organization by surprise; he was well-liked by players and coaches alike," the report states.

"Where the Toronto-born Yeo might be headed isn’t known, but one does note that his former associate coach in St. Louis Craig Berube has just taken over as head coach in Toronto."

Yeo, a native of Toronto, Ontario, has worked with Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube while with the St. Louis Blues. Berube was an assistant under the 50-year-old head coach for one season before replacing Yeo and winning the Stanley Cup with the Blues in the 2018-19 season.

"That's stuff we gotta talk about. We're gonna look at all the areas," Berube said during his first media availability as Toronto's head coach on May 21. "I know there's coaches here already. One that I worked with before. But we gotta discuss all that stuff with Brad (Treliving) and Brendan (Shanahan)."

It's possible Yeo could join the Maple Leafs, given Manny Malhotra's departure from Toronto's coaching staff to become the head coach of the Abbotsford Canucks earlier this week. According to Bruce Garrioch of The Ottawa Citizen, the now-former Vancouver assistant also interviewed for a position on the Ottawa Senators' coaching staff.

(In the same report, Garrioch says he gets the sense that Marlies head coach John Gruden — whose name was linked to the Senators head coaching job earlier this year — will remain with AHL Toronto for next season.)

After leaving St. Louis, Yeo was an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Flyers before joining the Canucks in 2022. He was also head coach of the Minnesota Wild from 2011 to February 2016.

Toronto hasn't made any other changes to its coaching staff, including Guy Boucher, Dean Chynoweth, and Mike Van Ryn (who was with Berube during their cup-winning run in 2019).
