Marner was seen skating for the first time by media ahead of Toronto's morning skate on Tuesday.
A Mitch Marner return could be on the horizon for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The 26-year-old forward hasn't appeared in a game since suffering a reported high-ankle sprain in Toronto's 4-1 loss to the Boston Bruins on Mar. 7. Marner has been skating as of late, but Tuesday was the first time the media has seen him on the ice since suffering the injury.
"Mitch is no longer day-to-day from day-to-day. He's just day-to-day," Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said with a grin.
"He's progressing very well. Not available today. But as far as his plan for the rest of the week, I think that'll be determined tomorrow. I haven't got the full report on how it went today. So status for practice is undetermined right now. But he's doing well."
Marner was skating with Maple Leafs skills coaches Denver Manderson and Nik Antropov on Tuesday morning. He was seen working mostly on his edges as he continues to recover from his ankle injury.
Once Marner gets into practices with the Maple Leafs, there'll likely be a more clear timeline on when the forward could return. Though as Keefe said on Tuesday morning, his status for practices this week is still undetermined.
Marner has 25 goals and 51 assists for 76 points in 62 games this season.
