Why Capitals' Tom Wilson Was Offered In-Person Hearing From NHL Player Safety Following High Stick on Maple Leafs' Noah Gregor

Gregor was seen checking his teeth on the bench following the high stick from Wilson.

Samsonov appeared to be injured after stopping a shot at the skate but it looks like he's fine, avoiding any goaltending injury panic.

Tom Wilson has been offered an in-person hearing after he high-sticked Maple Leafs forward Noah Gregor on Wednesday night.

The incident happened just over halfway through the third period. Gregor got his stick up high near the face of Wilson before the Capitals' forward swung his stick back, hitting Gregor in the mouth.

The Maple Leafs forward was bleeding and Wilson was assessed a double minor for high-sticking. However, it did appear as though Wilson showed remorse following the play.

With an in-person hearing being offered, it's possible that the Capitals' forward can be suspended for more than five games by the NHL's Department of Player Safety. Given Wilson's long history of supplemental discipline handed out by the NHL, he may be suspended for more than five games.

After taking the high stick from Wilson, Gregor was seen on the Maple Leafs bench speaking with his teammates about his teeth, and it appears some were chipped.

John Tavares would score Toronto's seventh goal of the game during the power play that the Maple Leafs were given because of the high stick from Wilson. It was Tavares' 23rd goal of the season and third point on the night, which gives him eight points in his last three games.

The Maple Leafs would go on to defeat the Capitals 7-3 in the second half of a back-to-back.

"I really liked [the response]," said Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe following the team's 7-3 win on Wednesday night.

"It was good to see, and then probably even better than that, was that each time Washington got one and looked like they were getting life, we stayed on the attack and built our lead from there. So I liked the response overall in the game, but I also liked the response within the game as it was going on."
