The Detroit Red Wings' 2019 second-round pick (54th overall) signs his first professional contract with the Toronto Marlies.

The Marlies have added another forward to their group ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Robert Mastrosimone has signed a one-year AHL contract with Toronto following four years in the NCAA. The 22-year-old had an impressive final season with Arizona State University, where he put up 42 points (11 goals, 31 assists) in 38 games.

Prior to his lone season at Arizona, Mastrosimone spent three years at Boston University where he scored 50 points (21 goals, 29 assists) in 83 games.

The 22-year-old is regarded as someone who has a high-end work ethic and isn't afraid even though he stands at five-foot-10.

Mastrosimone was originally drafted in the second round (54th overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft by the Detroit Red Wings but never signed his entry-level contract.

One of the reasons why the 22-year-old was drafted so high was because of his two strong seasons with the USHL's Chicago Steel where he put up 105 points (47 goals, 58 assists) in 114 games.

Marlies GM Ryan Hardy continues to add players who've previously played games with the Steel.
