Yesterday, Utah Mammoth goalie Connor Ingram cleared waivers after being placed on waivers just 24 hours earlier.

There was some thought that teams like the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs might put in a claim and try to land him. However, they didn’t, and Ingram cleared, so what’s next?

Well, he is going to report to the American Hockey League (AHL) and participate in the Tucson Roadrunners’ training camp. He’s projected to be the starter, which will allow him to get his career back on track.

If and when he does, and after he gets a few months of playing time under his belt, the Mammoth could revisit either calling him up or trading him.

If NHL fans know one thing, it’s that goalies are always involved in trade talks throughout the season. Which is a good thing for Ingram. While he seems content with going to the AHL and playing, anyone who has spent time in the NHL eventually wants to get back there. So his goal is likely to return to playing, find some success, and then hopefully work his way back to the NHL.

That path may only come by way of trade though. If that’s the case, his name will be floating in rumors all season long. As mentioned above, a team like the Oilers could be one that works out a deal for him if their goaltending struggles. If not, he may end up being dealt at the deadline to a contending team that wants an insurance policy between the pipes.

Obviously, only time will tell what happens, but for now, it looks like Ingram will be in the AHL to start the 2025-26 season.
