The Abbotsford Canucks defeated the Colorado Eagles 4-2 in Game 1 of their first-round matchup.

The Abbotsford Canucks started their 2024 Calder Cup Playoffs run on a positive note, defeating the Colorado Eagles 4-2 in Game 1 of their first-round series. Arshdeep Bains, Sheldon Dries, Chase Wouters and Linus Karlsson scored, while Zach Sawchenko stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced. Thanks to the victory in Game 1, the Canucks can advance to the second round for the second consecutive year with a win in Game 2 on Friday.

Despite being outshot 30-18, Abbotsford was able to escape Game 1 thanks to Sawchenko's impressive performance. It has been a difficult season for Sawchenko, who only played six games during the campaign but stepped up when his team needed him the most on Wednesday night. With Artūrs Šilovs and Nikita Tolopilo both up with the Vancouver Canucks, Sawchenko is expected to start the remainder of the series and will need to provide solid performances as he did in Game 1.

As for other players who had impressive nights, Dries finished with a goal and an assist, while Tristen Nielsen recorded two assists. Bains and Max Sasson were tied for the team lead with four shots each, while Wouters' game-winner was his first career AHL Playoff goal. Abbotsford and Colorado will continue their series in Colorado on Friday night, with game time set for 6:05 p.m. PT.
