The Vancouver Canucks play in their first game of the 2026-27 season today, with tonight's matchup pitting them against the Edmonton Oilers. Here are the lineup notes for September 29, 2026.
Since playing in their final regular-season game of the 2025-26 season back in April, Vancouver has made a fair share of changes at the on-ice level, bringing in Brendan Gallagher, Paul Cotter, Jamie Oleksiak, and former Canuck Luke Schenn. All four players have taken on somewhat significant roles throughout Vancouver's pre-season and training camp, with all four projected to stay in the spots they've spent most of the pre-season in.
In net tonight is none-other than Kevin Lankinen, who played in two games during the 2026 pre-season and stopped 28 of 31 shots faced in a 3-1 loss to the Calgary Flames as well as 25 of 28 in a 4-3 win against the Seattle Kraken. With Thatcher Demko starting the season on Vancouver's injured reserve, the Canucks will start the season with a goaltending duo of Lankinen and Leevi Meriläinen.
As today was an optional skate for the Canucks, tonight's projected lines have been drawn from Saturday's game and Monday's practice.
